CCTV News: The 7th Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was held in Beijing on September 3. Since its establishment in 2000, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation has also celebrated its 18th birthday. In the process of continuous maturity, it has promoted the continuous expansion of China-Africa cooperation step by step. The 18-year growth trajectory has witnessed the continuous deepening of China-Africa friendship, and the scope of cooperation has become increasingly broad. From trade, investment, infrastructure construction, to personnel training, poverty reduction and income increase, medical assistance, and cultural exchanges, China is helping Africa in all aspects to achieve Leap-forward development and integration into globalization.

18 years: China-Africa Forum has grown in 18 years and continued to implement the commitment plan

Since the establishment of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in 2000, China-Africa cooperation has continued to expand and deepen. The summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation is held every three years, and the 7th Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was held in Beijing from September 3 to 4. The theme of this summit is "Win-Win Cooperation, Join Hands to Build a Closer China-Africa Community with a Shared Future". At the last Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in 2015, China proposed ten cooperation plans between China and Africa, opening a new stage of win-win cooperation and common development between China and Africa.

19

Facts have proved that in the past 18 years, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation has always played an important role in leading and promoting China-Africa relations, actively planning the route for China-Africa cooperation in different periods. Not only that, the forum has also become an effective boost to expand the space for China-Africa cooperation. It is not difficult to see from the figure below that with the launch of non-governmental and media sub-forums, China-Africa cooperation has gradually expanded from economic and trade cooperation in the early days of the forum to politics, economy, security, society, humanities, environment and many other fields all-round cooperation.

20

Then, after 18 years of growth and deepening of the China-Africa Forum, what achievements have been made in the "non-" general cooperation between China and Africa? Let's find out with the data.

The first: China-Africa trade volume increased 16 times in the first half of the year. China has been the largest trading country in Africa for nine consecutive years.

The most direct part of China-Africa friendly cooperation is economic and trade exchanges. Since the establishment of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation 18 years ago, the trade volume between China and Africa has increased from 10.6 billion US dollars to 170 billion US dollars, an increase of about 16 times.

21

In the first half of 2018, China-Africa trade volume reached US$98.8 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16%. Since 2009, China has been Africa's largest trading partner for nine consecutive years.

Hundreds of thousands of jobs: Investment in Africa has created hundreds of thousands of jobs

In addition, China has become a country with a faster growth rate of international investment in Africa. The investment flow has increased from US$200 million in 2000 to US$2.4 billion in 2016, and the investment stock has also increased from less than US$500 million to more than US$38 billion in the same period.

22

Correspondingly, the number of Chinese-funded enterprises investing in Africa has increased from more than 400 to more than 3,000.
23

China's investment in Africa has not only created hundreds of thousands of jobs, but also improved Africa's infrastructure, raised the level of production technology in Africa, promoted Africa's industrialization and modernization process, and strengthened the public opinion foundation for China-Africa cooperation.

Exceeding 5,000 kilometers: breaking through the bottleneck of infrastructure construction, opening up the economic bloodline, and building more than 5,000 kilometers of railways and highways

It is the common aspiration of African countries to break through the bottleneck of infrastructure construction and open up economic bloodlines.

Kenya's Mombasa-Nairobi Railway is one of the two most influential century-old projects undertaken by China on the African continent. It is known as the "Road to Prosperity and Development". In January this year, the first freight train of the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway was put into operation. At present, there are 5 freight trains running between the capital Nairobi and Mombasa, the largest port in East Africa every day, saving at least 40% of logistics costs. The Mombasa-Nairobi Railway drives Kenya's GDP growth by about 1.5% every year and directly creates 46,000 local jobs. Since the reform and opening up, China has aided and financed the construction of more than 5,000 kilometers of railways and roads for African countries.

24

In addition to boosting transportation infrastructure, in Zimbabwe in southern Africa, the expansion project of the Kariba South Bank Hydropower Station undertaken by a Chinese company was completed in March this year. The total installed capacity of the Kariba Hydropower Station has increased from 750,000 kilowatts to 1.05 million kilowatts, which has increased Zimbabwe’s 20% to 30% of the power supply has effectively alleviated the country's power shortage situation.

Today, from railways and highways to airports, ports, and hydropower stations, infrastructure projects undertaken by China are all over the African continent. African countries are gradually keeping up with the pace of economic globalization.

150,000 person-times: Teaching a man to fish Provided 150,000 person-times of professional talent training in two years

President Xi Jinping once pointed out that the greater "righteousness" of China-Africa relations is to use China's development to help Africa's development, and ultimately achieve mutual benefit and common development; In aid to Africa, it is even more necessary to "teach people how to fish" and strengthen cooperation in human resource development and technical exchanges.

The China-Africa cooperation model of "growth with local talents and mutual benefit and win-win with local economy" has now spread across the African continent. Since the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation at the end of 2015, China has attached great importance to the development of Africa's capacity building. Over the past two years, it has provided 150,000 professional trainings to African countries and 30,000 scholarships to African students.

In June of this year, the Chinese company that undertook the construction of the "Mongolia-Nairobi Railway" released a report showing that the project has employed more than 72,000 local employees, trained tens of thousands of skilled workers and more than 5,000 railway technicians; and through cooperative education, More than 2,000 local students have passed professional training related to railway operation, and they will become the backbone of future local railway operation and maintenance.

140% increase in production: promote Chinese rice planting technology to increase production by 140% and help African people get rid of poverty as soon as possible

China has always been anxious about people's urgency and thinking about what people think about African countries, and it has been the same for decades. Statistics show that 70% of Africa's population is agricultural population, and the contribution rate of agriculture to Africa's GDP is as high as 30%. However, many African countries have weak agricultural infrastructure and backward technology, coupled with frequent natural disasters and social unrest, food security cannot be guaranteed. China has proposed China-Africa cooperation plans such as "poverty reduction and benefiting the people" and "agricultural modernization", and once again emphasized the need to share agricultural development experience with Africa, transfer agricultural applicable technologies, and increase the income of local farmers.

In the Chinese Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center in Tanzania, after adopting Chinese rice planting technology, the rice yield per mu increased from 237 kg to 570 kg, an increase of 140%.

25

At present, China’s rice planting technology has more than 15,000 mu of high-yield demonstration model fields in the Dakawa rice-growing area of Morogoro Province in Tanzania every year, and more than 2,000 farmers have directly benefited; China has also built farms in Zambia. Over the past 24 years, Zhongken Farm has solved the employment problem of more than 4,200 people for the local area, and solved the food and clothing problem of more than 15,000 people. After careful calculation, the farm has supplied more than 45,000 tons of grain, 260 million fresh eggs, meat, eggs, and chickens to the local market. 3.71 million.

Up to now, Chinese experts and technicians have implemented more than 300 small-scale demonstration projects in 9 African countries, promoted 450 practical agricultural technologies, and trained nearly 30,000 local farmers and technicians.

More than 200 million people: Medical assistance relieved the pain of more than 200 million African patients

In addition to solving the problem of "lack of food", the China-Africa cooperation project is also committed to alleviating the plight of the African people who "look down on medical care". In Zambia, over the past 40 years, 20 batches of Chinese medical teams with a total of 546 members have treated more than 3 million patients in Zambia, performed more than 20,000 operations of various types, and introduced and implemented more than 700 new technologies and projects.

In 2006, Comoros reported 108,000 cases of malaria, resulting in 34 deaths. In 2007, the Chinese anti-malarial team entered Comoros. By 2014, Comoros had only reported more than 2,000 cases of malaria nationwide, achieving zero deaths from malaria cases.

26

After the Ebola epidemic broke out in West African countries in 2014, China took the lead in extending a helping hand to help African brothers fight the epidemic. For more than half a century, tens of thousands of Chinese aid doctors have relieved the pain of more than 200 million African patients.

23.7%: Promoting cultural integration, African students studying in China increased by 23.7% year-on-year in five years

The extraordinary cooperation has also promoted the people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and Africa. At present, there are nearly 2 million person-times of personnel exchanges between China and Africa every year, and China has opened more than 80 Confucius Institutes and classrooms in 41 African countries. In 2017 alone, China and Africa held more than 100 people-to-people and cultural exchanges and implemented more than 200 people-to-people and cultural cooperation projects.

Since 2000, the Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation has promised to provide funding and support for African education in China and abroad. According to statistics, in the five years from 2012 to 2016, the total number of African students studying in China was 61,594, and the number of students coming to China from all continents increased rapidly, with a year-on-year increase of 23.7%.

One-third: In-depth cooperation for the advancement of one-third of the world

From brothers in need to comprehensive strategic cooperative partners, China-Africa friendship has been continuously deepened, and China-Africa cooperation has been continuously upgraded. Statistics show that the total population of China and Africa in 2017 has exceeded 2.6 billion, accounting for about 35% of the world's total population; the total land area of China and Africa is 39.8 million square kilometers, accounting for about 30% of the world's total land area (excluding Antarctica). The advancement of China-Africa relations under the leadership of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation means that one-third of the world is advancing. This surpasses the "huddle together" among developing countries, and marks the new era of South-South cooperation in the 21st century. Shining and glowing and China's efforts to build a global community with a shared future.
